Laying the Foundation for Good Sleep Habits

Newborn (0-16 weeks)

While a newborn’s sleep patterns are naturally erratic, there are still routines you can use to promote a good night's sleep and long, restful naps during the day. We will help you build healthy newborn sleep habits right from the start so that your family can get some rest!

The first 16 weeks can be the most challenging and exhausting time for families. Your baby is adjusting to their new world, feeding frequently, and often fussy for reasons that aren’t clear. You need to provide flexibility, soothing, and feeding on demand, while dealing with your own lack of sleep. It can be a lot! The good news is that baby sleep develops steadily over the first 4 months. Putting good structures in place early allows you to support your newborn’s natural sleep development. We don’t expect babies to “sleep through the night” just yet but we do see their skills unfold and sleep improve.

Getting off to a good start is so important—working with your babies early in their development can help you prevent the need for child sleep training in the future.
